    Esa Alfiani, 16.05.111.000.24. Men Domination Over African American Woman in Alice Walker’s The Color Purple: Black Feminism Study that is Matrix of Domination. Thesis. English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences. University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Dr. Dra. Siti Hanifa, M.Pd. The aims of the research are to explain about men domination over African American Woman and to discover the impacts of men domination toward woman’s character also to illustrate the implied meaning of the “color purple” within interrelatedness of domination occurred in Alice Walker’s The Color Purple. This research uses Black Feminism literary theory that is Matrix of Domination to analyze the source of the study. The novel depicts how African American woman are treated in the novel and how the main character submit to men domination before deciding to fight and rebel against that domination. This research is classified as qualitative research. The activity of data collection was done by reading the source of data in several times and selecting the data to answer the research questions. The data analysis process used the Miles Huberman and Saldana’s technique: data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of this study showed about African-American woman who experienced men domination in the early 20th century such as slavery, sexism, discrimination and oppression. This research discover how she survives when she initially has to obey domination until she rebellion because of betrayal. And also the effects of men domination until she became a lesbian. Obedience to the process of resistance to domination make the main character become financially independent, and gain emotional and spiritual freedom. Even the author also describes the correlation of implied meaning of the "color purple" with the relation of domination. Moreover, the issues of black feminism regarding the matrix of domination such as oppression to race, gender, class, and sexual orientation also often occurs to colored people.
