AN ANALYSIS OF REGISTER OF FARMWORKERS IN JANTEH VILLAGE Siti Fitria English Study Program, Department of Social and Cultural Sciences, Faculty Of Social and Cultural Sciences, Trunojoyo University, Madura Sitifitria093@gmail.com ABSTRACT This study is focused on registers used by farmworkers of Janteh village. This study aims to explain the kinds of register and the factor which influence the use of registers in farmworkers of Janteh village. This study used a descriptive qualitative design. The source of data in this study is the dialogue taken from four farmworkers in Janteh village and 1 land owner. Meanwhile, the data of this study are any words, phrases, clauses, and sentences occurring in farmworkers of Janteh village which contain register. The data were collected by using non-participant observation and interview. In analyzing data, the writer used interactive data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994:12). The results showed that there are 20 data found in this study. They are classified into 5 kinds of registers. They are frozen register (0 data), formal register (0 data), consultative register (1 data), casual register (4 data) and intimate register (15 data). There are 4 factors which influence the use of registers, those are social setting (11 data), situation and purpose (9 data), addressor and addressee (0 data) and topic or subject (0 data).
