ABSTRACT This study focus the role about social environment towards Suleiman’ personality, especially his attitude and behavior. Social environment is the one of interesting topics to be discussed. It is learnt about how the environment plays a role in the formation of a child’s personality going forward, especially the mindset and behavior as long as he grows up according to the surrounding environment. Therefore, this study discussed about the social environment conditions and the role of the environment which has influenced Suleiman’s personality in his childhood. Moreover, this study used theory Psychology of literature, and social psychology as the main theory. Meanwhile, the theory of social psychology is used to analyze the social environment which influences on Suleiman’s personality as the main character. Furthermore, this study is conducted using a qualitative design. Because it was related to the process in analyzing the data, (1) collected the data and analyzing the data simultaneously, the data are author narration and character’s utterances. (2) The key instrument of this study is the writer herself. After analyzing the novel, it can be concluded that the process of social environment influenced Suleiman’s personality along with the role of the environment itself. They are from his family, his neighbors, his friends and his society community. From the environmental conditions and the role around it, that gives Suleiman influences to his personality. Suleiman gets many moral values and experience which can think of what is right and what is wrong and his behavior becomes more mature.
