AbstractionThis study focuses on grammatical errors found in students’ theses of English study program, University of Trunojoyo Madura. This study aims to find and explain the types of errors found in the theses using both the theory proposed by Dulay (1982) about types of errors and the theory proposed by Brown (2000) about factors causing grammatical errors. This study employs qualitative study as the research design. In addition, qualitative content analysis is applied to obtain the data in which the writer becomes the key instument of the study. Qualitative data analysis was conducted to analyze the data. The data of the study were taken from the sentences indicating grammatical errrors in the theses. As a result, the writer found 46 data classified in both terms of types of errors and factors of errors. In terms of types of errors, the data are classified into omission (22 data), addition (12 data), misformation (7 data), and misordering (5 data). Moreover, in terms of factors of errors, the data are classified into two factors: interlingual transfer (12 data) and intralingual/developmental transfer (34 data).
