    Abstraction

    The purpose of this study focuses on the main character of the novel Before I Fall using Abraham Maslow’s theory. Self-Actualization is a person’s desire to become everything he or she is capable of becoming to realize and use his or her full potential, capacities, and talents. People who have reached the level of actualization become fully human. Human Motivation is the theory in which appropriate to be applied in this analysis. It refers to human effort which able to make them move to do something they want. In his theory, Maslow assumed that people are constantly being motivated by one need or another. The needs are believed as the basic motivation own by every needs, love and belongingness needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. The novel Before I Fall in which written by Laurent Oliver in 2010 of any novels told about a human who is believed by the researcher achieving self-actualization. Samantha Kinston is an ordinary girl as the main character trapped on her death recur. Through this experience, she reconnects with her family and friends, but mostly with herself and finds a way to accept her death and pass into the afterlife peacefully, knowing that she’s made a positive impact on the world she leaves behind. Qualitative research was held in this study. The method of data collections were reading, labeling and matching. Data were selected and matched by the writer himself. Analysis data in this study applied Robert K. Yin technique. The data were compiled, disassembled, reassembled, interpreted and concluded. The results showed that Samantha Kingston is successful satisfying the needs of physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness, esteem needs, until she is able to achieve self-actualization needs to be a good person. Her strong belief that she must have a good relationship with her family and friends after she has always repeated her death. Samantha is successful achieving her self-actualization by always maintaining her conviction. The other result shows that Samantha can fulfil the characteristic of self-actualizing people such as: (1) Realistic, (2) Acceptance, (3) Spontaneity, Simplicity and Naturalness, (4) Problem Centering, (5) The Needs for Privacy, (6) Autonomy, (7) Continued Freshness of Appreciation, (8) Gemeinshaftgefuhl, (9) Interpersonal Relationship, (10) The Democratic Character structure, (11) Discrimination Between Means and Ends, (12) Philosophical, Unhostile Sense of Humour, (13) Creativity, (14) Resistance to Enculturation, (15) Peak Experienced.
