    Abstraction

    ABSTRACT This study is focused to discuss the types of affixes and semantic categories of affiixes. This study uses descriptive qualitative design. The sources of the data of this study are The Jakarta Post Newspapers, while the data are the words which contain affixes. The method used to collect the data was qualitative content analysis. The findings of study show that The Jakarta Post Newspapers uses three types of affix. The prefixes are classified into four sub-types, they are numerous locative prefixes (9 data), temporal prefix (-), negative prefixes (5 data) and quantitative prefixes (3 data). The suffixes are classified into four sub-types. They are nominal suffixes (190 data), verbal suffixes (111 data), adjectival suffixes (78 data), and adverbial suffixes (40 data). The last type is circumfixes (30 data). The writer also found 5 semantic categories used in The Jakarta Post Newspapers. They are personal affixes (22 data), negative and privative affixes (126 data), prepositional affixes (51 data), quantitative affixes (264 data) and evaluative affixes (3 data).
