This analysis focuses on phrasal verbs found in the articles of BBC News. This analysis aims to find and explain the types of phrasal verbs found in the articles of BBC News using theory of types of phrasal verbs proposed by Greenbaum and Quirk (1973) and the function of particles in phrasal verbs using the theory function of particles in phrasal verbs proposed by Heaton (1985). This analysis employs qualitative research. In addition, content analysis is applied to obtain the data in which the writer becomes the key instrument of the study. Interactive data analysis, then, is conducted to analyze and explain the data. The data of the study are taken from the articles of BBC News. This analysis shows the findings of the types of phrasal verbs and the functions of particles in phrasal verbs. In terms of types of phrasal verbs, 30 data of phrasal verbs were found. The data are classified into 2 types: intrasitive phrasal verb (21 data) and transitive phrasal verb (9 data). Morever, in terms of the function of particles in phrasal verbs, the data are classified into 5 function of particles: assuming a new or subsidiary meaning (3 data), assuming a new or special meaning (2 data), providing stress emphasis or a sense (9 data), functioning in a similar way to ordinary adverbs (15 data), and a number are similar in function to prepositions (1 data).
