This study aims to explain refusal strategies in sesame street series. This study is guided by two research questions, those are: (1) what are the types of refusal strategies found in sesame street series, and (2) what kinds of sequences of refusal strategies found in sesame street series. This study uses qualitative research design since the data are collected in the form of word. This study uses two theories proposed by Felix-Brasdefer (2008) and Hassani, R., Mardani, M., & Dastjerdi, H. V (2011). To analyse the types of refusal strategies, the writer uses the theory which is proposed by Felix-Brasdefer (2008). While, to analyse the sequences of refusal strategies, the writer uses the theory used by Hassani, R., Mardani, M., & Dastjerdi, H. V (2011). The sources of data are all for song, cookie monster thinks the moon is cookie, elmo teaches abby to pretend, elmo`s amazing alphabet race, sesame street gets through a strom. The data of this study are words, phrases, and sentences which contain refusal strategies. The data were collected by using content analysis method. From 23 data, 10 data are classified as direct strategy. Type of Reason/explanation has 3 data. Type of apology /regret has 3 data. Type of alternative only has one datum. Type of repetition of part of previous discourse only has one datum. Type of set condition for future or past acceptance has one datum. Type of wish has one datum. Type of Gratitude/ appreciation has two data. Type of set condition for future or past acceptance and alternative have one datum. From 23 data, there are ten data (10) which have complete sequences of refusal strategies (Pre, main, post). There are five data (5) which only have pre and main refusals. There are seven data (7) which have main and post refusals. There is one datum which only has main refusal.
