Advisor: Dr. Sriyono, S.S., M.Hum. The aims of the Study are to investigate the types and the function of ellipsis found in The Jakarta Post Editorial. This study uses two theories to analyze the data. Those are Halliday and Hasan (1976) and Quirk and Greenbaum (1973). This study uses qualitative approach. The source of the data are the words, phrases, clauses, and sentences found in The Jakarta Post Editorial. The main instrument of the study was the writer herself which are functioning to collect, read, classify, and analyze the data. The data is analyzed by applying interactive model analysis. In the finding, the writer finds 25 data that can be categorized based on the types and functions of ellipsis in The Jakarta Post Editorial. The writer finds three types of ellipsis, nomimal (7 data), verbal (7 data), and clausal ellipsis (11 data).
