  • TRANSACTIONAL READER RESPONSE IN RAFEEF ZIADAH’S POEM SHADES OF ANGER

    Abstraksi

    The aims of this study were to categorize the transaction of the reader and the poem which were classified into aesthetic mode and efferent mode. Besides, study also discussed the author’s messages implied in the poem, and the interpretation of gap in the poem related to the issue of Israel-Palestine war. Qualitative research was conducted in this study. The methods of data collections were observing, distributing questionnaires, and documenting. In addition, coding is also applied in this research to facilitate the easier way in analyzing the data. Data were filtered and matched by the writer herself. The method of data analysis in this study applied Miles, Huberman and Saldana’s technique. The data were selected, focused, samplified, interpreted and concluded. The results of the study displayed three messages found in the responses of the readers. First, this poem aims to convey the Palestinians emotions; anger, sadness and also fear. Second, it represents the woman’s struggle. The third, it is intended to uncover the political issue related to Israel-Palestine war. Besides the gap of Rafeef Ziadah’s poem (the words an Arab woman of ‘colour’) can be filled by the readers into four terms, which come up with different perspectives, they are; (1) Uncovering identity, (2) Representing political term through empowering woman’s struggle, (3) Representing Palestinian suffering.
