    Abstraction

    This study focuses on language attitude. This study aims to find out the type of students’ language attitude toward the use of Madurese, Indonesian, Arabic and English including the factors motivate them to have the attitudes. The study uses language attitude type of Garrett et al. (2003). This study was conducted by applying a descriptive quantitative method design by using Likert scale with measurement scale 2.50 – 4.00 for positive attitude and 1.00 – 2.49 for negative attitude and Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree and Strongly Disagree scale to measure the students’ motivation on their attitude. The data were taken from forty students’ responses in Banyuanyar Islamic Boarding School. The data were collected by direct analysis method through questionnaires. The result of the study showed the type of students’ language attitude. The type of students’ attitude was positive attitude. The score for their response to Madurese language were (2.73), to Indonesian language were (2.83), to Arabic language were (2.92) and to English language were (2.9). The average of the whole scores were 2.85. The score was more than 2.50 which shows positive attitude toward those languages. The motivation of students’ positive language attitude was motivated by the prestige and powers of each languages and motivated by their better educational expectation in their future education.
