Febrina, L. 14.05.111.00078. Sternberg’s Triangular of Love in Marie Lu’s The Young Elites. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Erika Citra Sari Hartanto, S.S., M.Hum. This study is intended to explain about the type of love between the main characters and what the effect of their love into their personality. Focusing on these matters, this study focuses on the analysis of the utterances and narrator’s narration of the characters which is related to Sternberg’s triangular of love. Psychology of love theory, especially Sternberg’s triangular theory of love is used as the basic theory to analyze the type of love that is portrayed between the main characters in the novel. Furthermore, this study is established by using qualitative research, because the data are in the form of words or sentence. Therefore, the utterances, actions, and the narrator’s narrations according to the research problems are analyzed to show the type of love between the main characters. Hence, the data collection is done simultaneously with the data analysis. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) in Marie Lu’s The Young Elites, there are three types of love which shown by the main characters; such as romantic love, liking, and non love. 2) The effect of each types of love consist of coming out free sex and feeling lost lost if another one is not exist, or contrary, someone may miss his or her friend but the other one does not.
