Thesis English Study Program of Faculty of Social And Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Dr. Masduki, M.Pd. This study focuses on code switching that are found on whatsapp group. Code switching is part of the sociolinguistic phenomenon. The phenomenon of code switching itself has become one of the interesting topics. This study aims to explain the type and factor of code switching. Code switching not only occurs in the speech community but also on whatsapp group. This study use method descriptive qualitative. The data taken from conversations or comments on whatsapp group “English in Focus”. The data was collected since October 2017 by participating in conversation and comment on the group. This study is done based on Wardaugh’s theory of the types of code switching and Hyme’s theory of the factor of code switching. Based on data anlysis that have been done, it is found that members on the whatsapp group “English in Focus” often used situational rather than metaphorical code switching. This study also explain the factors of code switching, there are eight factor. They are setting, participants, ends, act sequences, key, instrumentalities, norms and genre.
