  • An Analysis of Grammatical Errors Produced By Basic English Course Students Pare-Kediri, East Java

    Abstraksi

    This study aims to identify the types of grammatical errors produced by the students of Basic English Course Pare-Kediri, East Java which using the theory proposed by Jack C. Richard (1974). It is also to explain the influencing factors leading to the grammatical errors which have been done by Basic English Course students using the theory proposed by Brown (2000). The study was a descriptive qualitative research method and the writer was the main instrument who collected the data. The sources of data in this study were the students of Basic English Course. The data were the utterances produced by Basic English Course students. These data were presented and classified by using codes to get the results. The result of the study showed that the grammatical errors produced by Basic English Course students revealed 53 data. The data are divided into the types and the influencing factors of grammatical errors. The types of grammatical errors were errors in the production of verb group (41 data), errors in the use of preposition (14 data), errors in the use of article (7 data), errors in the use of question (1 data), and errors in miscellaneous (3 data). Meanwhile, the influencing factors leading to the grammatical errors were interlingual transfer (24 data) and intralingual transfer (29 data).
