  • A Study of Diphthong Mispronunciation by English Learners at Sabilillah English Course

    ry of Sabilillah English course. This study uses the theory proposed by Dardjowidjojo (2009) to analyze the diphthong mispronounced by English learners at dormitory of sabilillah English course. According to Dardjowidjojo theory, diphthong is a sound formed by the combination of two vowels in a single syllable. This study was conducted by applying a descriptive qualitative research design. Further, interview is conducted to abtain the data with the writer as the key instrument. Interactive data analysis, then, is chosen to analyze and explain the data. The data of this study are taken from the utterences of students and the source of data are taken from students and teachers in English learners at dormitory of sabilillah English course. This study shows the diphthong mispronounced by English learners at dormitory of sabilillah English course. They are mispronounced diphthong (73 data). In terms of diphthong /e?/ (20 data), diphthong /a?/ (13data), diphthong /a?/ (12 data), diphthong /o?/ (15 data), and diphthong /??/ (10 data). Furthermore, in terms of phonological environment.
