Julianna Self-Actualization in Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen.Penulis : PUSPITA SARIDosen Pembimbing I : Zakiyatul Mufidah, M.HumDosen Pembimbing II :Abstraksi
This study intends to recognize the main character potential to grow healthy, which are portrayed in Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen. The aims of this study are to identify the stage of human needs to achieve Julianna’s self-actualization and to realize the effect of self-actualization to Julianna’s personality. The writer chooses the novel as the source of data because the author of the novel gets many-winning novels. This study is included into a qualitative research as a method, because the data are in the form of words rather than number. The data of this study are the characters utterances and author’s narration. Otherwise, this study collected the data by reading and documenting. This study used psychology of literature approach by applying Maslow’s theory of human motivation. The result of this study reveal that Juliann has reached her self-actualization or the highest needs, after she is gratified with her basic needs such as physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs. In addition, her self-actualization change her personality to be more efficient perception of reality, accepts herself, other and nature, need for privacy, more creative, and her interpersonal relations.
