    Abstraction

    Abstract The purpose of this study was to discover intertextuality approach between two contemporary novels Divergent and Dark Days. Intertextual relations were able to be perceived by discovering dominant elements such as similarities and differences as to what the reader might think both novels potentially relate one and each other. The data of this study were characters’ utterances and narrator’s explanations in both of two novels. Moreover, the researcher used qualitative research methodology because the data collected were reading, labeling and analysed are in the form of words. The data of this study are the words or utterances, the characters or author’s narration in both sources of data were taken from the novel, the key instrument of this study is the researcher herself. Then, the technique of analyzing data divided into five step, those are : compiled, diassembled, reassembled, interpreted, and concluded. After analysing both novels, the study gets the result that Veronica Roths’ Divergent (Hypogram) had potentially inspired Kate Ormands’ Dark Days (Transformation). Related to this study, intended to answer this formulated research problem. There are two statement of problem of the study, the first is similarities and the second is differences. Therefore, the researcher found five similarities elements which has been appeared in both novels, they are: protagonist, conflict, theme, point of view, ending of the story. The second is differences, the researcher found two different element which has been apperared in both novels, that are setting of time, and setting of place.
