This study is concerned with Javanese idioms used by the societies in Jombang. It is to analyze the meaning of Javanese idioms and the contexts of the use Javanese . It uses Leech’s theory (1981) to analyze the meaning and McCarthy and O’Dell (2010) to analyze the context their use. Javanese idioms are unique phenomenon in language resulted from people’s creativity. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The chosen data were the utterances related to the idioms. To collect the data, the researcher employed observation and interview method. Then, interactive data analysis model was applied to analyze the data. The research shows the meaning of idioms: someone who likes stealing something, hard work, live is just for a moment, a beautiful woman in a village and so on. Relating to context, it reveals evidences: in the context of heath (2 data), sadness (1 data), knowing and understanding (1 data), experience and perception (1 data), having problem (3 data), power and authority (1 data), structuring and talking argument (2 data), praise and criticism (8 data), opinion on people and action (7 data), behavior and attitude (3 data), effort (2 data), probability and luck (2 data), feeling (1 data), human relationship (1 data), commenting on language (1 data), memory (1 data), and advice (2 data).
