English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Prof. Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono, M. Pd The aim of this study is to find Poe’s unconsciousness and the types of those unconsciousness that portrayed in the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe. The topic of this study is about character’s unconsciousness through author’s narration in word, phrase and line in stanza. The writer choses the poem as the source of data analysis because the poem is one of the most famous of literary works that written by Poe and this poem conceives the tradition named mystical believe. Therefore, this poem is interesting to be analyzed. This study was conducted by applying a qualitative research. The data of this study are the author’s narration that depict the unconsciousness of Poe in the poem The Raven. The key instrument is the writer herself, because all activities are done by the writer. The technique of data collection were reading, rereading, coding the data, and interpreting the data. This study is analyzed by using Miles and Huberman concepts. After the writer collected the data, the writer applied three components of Miles and Huberman namely, data reduction, data display and conclusion: drawing/ verifying. The result of the study shows that the author in the poem is the poet himself. The writer found that Poe get an experience of unconsciousness in the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe since he left by his sweetheart, named Lenore and the types of unconsciousness which portrays through author’s narration in the poem. Afterward, the unconsciousness which appear to the Poe in the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe is divided into four types of unconsciousness that are: (1) Stupor, (2) Fainting, (3) Somnolence, and (4) Coma. Poem The Raven is dominated by types of unconsciousness of Fainting, because of the lost his sweetheart, Lenore make him unaware only a moment.
