    ABSTRACT Rahayu, Femmy P. 14.05.111.000.10. Natural Phenomena Portrayed in Karem Thompson Walker’s Novel The Age of Miracles. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura, 2018. Advisor: ImronWakhid Harits, Ph.D. This thesis focuses on the issue of nature in The Age of Miracles novel by Karen Thompson Walker. The novel tells about the portrayal of California, which is a dangerous city in USA. Julia as the main character who has to struggle and survive in an extraordinary time. The aims of this thesis are to explain kinds of natural phenomena and the impacts of destroyed nature toward the main character. This thesis applies qualitative method. The writer uses Ecocriticism Theory established by Garrard. The result of this thesis is that the novel entitled The Age of Miraclescontains portrayal of natural phenomena. Firstly, the concept of Garrard using Ecocriticism Theory consists of two concepts, include wilderness and apocalypse. Wilderness which is represented by California.Apocalypse which is portray of doomsday and human destruction. Wilderness and Apocalypseare essential to understand portrayal of nature in order to help the writer for analysis natural phenomena in this novel. Secondly, kinds of natural phenomena include slowing time and earthquake. Lastly, the impacts of destroyed nature toward the characters are disease and human behaviour.
