ABSTRACT This study aims to explain the types of onomatopoeic words using two theories proposed by Bredin (1996) and Ullman (cited in Eliza 2012). It also aims to explain the variations of onomatopoeic words using the theory proposed by Kotter, Lange, and Meier (2005). New variation is found in this data. This study is conducted by applying a descriptive qualitative research design. The sources of data are Black Widow comics complied on 2014. The data of this study are comic scenes containing onomatopoeia, produced outside and inside the balloon. The data are collected by using content analysis method and analyzed by using interactive model analysis. In the finding, the researcher found 61 data. Firstly, the types of onomatopoeia are demonstrated by 49 data which belong to direct onomatopoeia, 4 data which belong to associative onomatopoeia, 2 data which belong to exemplary onomatopoeia, and 6 data which belong to secondary onomatopoeia. Secondly, the variations of onomatopoeia are demonstrated by 46 data belong to capital letter classifications; 5 data belong to compound variation of multiple vowel and capital letter; 3 data belong to compound variation of multiple consonant and capital letter; 4 data belong to compound variation of multiple vowel, multiple consonant, repetition of initial letter, and capital letter; 1 datum belongs to compound variations of multiple vowel, multiple consonant and capital letter; 1 datum belongs to compound variation of multiple vowel, repetition of initial letter and capital letter; 1 datum which has no variation of onomatopoeic words. The writer finds no exchanging letter as variation of onomatopoeic words from the data. Key words: Onomatopoeia, Black Widow Comic
