  • A Study Of Jargon Used By Bangkalan’s Sailor Community

    Abstraksi

    This study aims to analyze the types of Jargon Used By Bangkalan’s Sailor Community. and explain the function of Jargon Used By Bangkalan’s Sailor Community. This study used some theories for the theoretical framework. To analyze the formation of jargons, the theories used are Yule’s (2006) theory. Meanwhile Hyme’s (1974) theory are used to analyze the context of situation. The result shows that there are 30 occurrences that can be divided into 4 types of jargon formation; they are: 7 clipping occurrences, 14 borrowing occurrences, 4 compound occurrences, and 5 acronym occurrences. Those jargons are used in various situations depending on the context. Most of them are used greeting, offering and giving notice with various tone on formal and informal conversation. While the function of jargon identify into 2 types based on Chaika’s (1982) theory. Keywords: Jargon, Jargon Formation, context of situation, Bangkalan’s sailor community
