English Study Program Department of Social and Cultural Sciences Univesity of Trunojoyo Madura Advisor: Dr. Masduki, M. Pd This study focuses on jargon in Bangkalan Photographers Community. This study analyzes the types of jargon used by the members of Bangkalan Photographers Community, and the functions of jargon in Bangkalan Photographers Community. The data are analyzed and classified based on the types of jargon proposed by Halligan (2004), and the functions of jargon proposed by Chaika (1982). This study is conducted by using a descriptive qualitative research. The sources of data are the members of Bangkalan Photographers Community, while the data are the member’s utterances of Bangkalan Photographers Community that contain jargon. The method of collecting data used observation method. In the findings of this study, the writer found four types of jargon and three function proposed by Halligan (2004). 35 data can be included in to types of jargon. 25 data belong to word, 5 data belong to phrase, 5 data belong to acronym and no data for abbreviation. The writer also found three functions of this jargon. 9 data belong to jargon can make a sense for fellow member, 14 data belong to jargon make easier to communicate, and 12 data belong to jargon as signal for identification.
