This study aims to investigate the types and the factors that caus consonant clusters reduction in English Words Containing Consonant Cluster reduction Produced by English Department Student of University of Trunojoyo Madura when they read the short story entitled Miriam by Troman Capote. To analyze the types of consonant clusters reduction the writer uses the theory proposed by Green (2002). To analyze the factors that cause consonant clusters reduction the writer uses the theory proposed by Corder (cited in Mathew 1997). Therefore, this study uses descriptive qualitative design to analyze the data. The data of this study are English Words Containing Consonant Cluster Produced by English Department Student of University of Trunojoyo Madura, also the source of data of this study is a short story entitled Miriam by Troman Capote. The findings of this study show that there are two types of consonant cluster reduction. The first is in the middle of words and the second is in the last of words. In the middle of words it is divided into voiced alveolar stop and voiceless alveolar stop. And in the last of words divided into voiceless bilabial stop, voiced alveolar stop, voiceless alveolar stop and voiceless velar stop. In significant, the findings of factors that cause consonant cluster reduction occur are divided L1 interference and spelling interference. Therefore, consonant cluster reduction which are found in the source of data have unexpected types and factors that cause consonant cluster reduction occur in English learners.
