ABSTRACT This research focuses on turn-taking strategies used in Oprah Winfrey Show. The aims of this research is to explain the kinds of turn taking strategies and the functions of turn taking strategies used in Oprah Winfrey Show. This research used turn taking strategies theory proposed by Sternstrom (1994). This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research is the video of Oprah Winfrey Show – coming out interview episode. Then the data is the utterances of Ellen DeGeneres as the guest star of the talk show. The finding of this research demonstrate the kinds of turn taking straetgies and their functions found in Oprah Winfrey Show. In term of kinds, they refer to taking the floor strategy (10 data), holding the floor strategy (8 data), yielding the floor strategy (2 data) and mixing of taking and holding the floor strategy (10 data). Due to their functions, they are to evaluate the previouse speaker, to take the trun without any plan before, to remember what the speaker will say next, to give chance to the next speaker and to convince the audiences.
