ABSTRACT Jamaluddin. 2018. A Study of Register in Fisherman Community of South Coast Sampang District. This study aims to investigate the types of register used in fishermen community of south coast Sampang district and the functions of registers of fisherman society of south coast Sampang. This study uses Hunt and Jones (in Sawiyah, 2007) and Halliday (1985) theory to analyze the types and the functions of register in fisherman society of south coast Sampang district. This study used descriptive analysis design. The data were words and phrases uttered by fishermen which included as register in daily fisherman conversation. The main instrument in collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data was the writer himself. The method to collect the data was observation method. The method to analyze the data was content data analysis. They are15 registers found in this study. The result of this study shows two types of register namely informal registers (1) and reporting registers (14). There are two functions of registers namely personal (8) and information (7) used in fishermen community.
