The purpose of this study of euphemism is to find out euphemism in CNN online newspaper and give an understanding about euphemism especially in the types of euphemism and the functions of euphemism in the CNN online newspaper. This study used qualitative data analysis. The data are the words or the phrases which belong to euphemism in the CNN online newspaper. In this study, the writer used content analysis in collecting the data. The data collected after the writer read for several times and classified data based on the research problems. The writer used interactive data analysis in the method of analyzing data, which consisted three activities: data reduction/condensation, data display and conclusion/verification. The results of this study are the types of and functions of euphemism in the CNN online newspaper. The writer found the types of euphemism: compounding 2 data, abbreviation 1 data, particularization 14 data, implication 10 data, metaphor 8 data, metonymy 1 data, reversal 1 data, understatement 10 data, and overstatement 3 data. The writer found functions of euphemism: function being polite 11 data, function to gloss-over 2 data, the function of avoiding taboo 19 data, and function disguising 18 data.
