This study aims to explain the hesitation in the talkshow. This study focuses on types and functions of hesitation. The object of this study is Ellen DeGeneres Show entitled “The British Accent vs The American”. This study is important to be analyzed because almost of every single person does hesitation during his speaking. Moreover, there is no human speaks perfectly without any hesitations. To analyze the data, this study used the theories proposed by Rose (1998) for the types and Khojastehrad (2012) and Jasone (1998) for the functions of hesitation. This study used content analysis for the method of data collection. The source of data is video of talkshow which are taken from Youtube. The data of this study are the conversations by the speakers in the talkshow which contain hesitation. In this study, the writer found 34 data which clasified into 6 types of hesitation (repeat, restart, self-corrections, false start, lengthenings and pauses (filled and unfilled pause)) and 2 functions of hesitation (turn taking and pause (psychological function, cognitive function, and communicative function)).
