  • A Study of Code-Switching Among Bilingual Students in MI Adipura Surabaya

    Abstraksi

    This study aims to explain the types of code-switching, and the factors of code-switching among bilingual students in MI Adipura, Surabaya. This study focuses on the utterances produced by bilingual students which contains code-switching. The source of data was the conversations between students in MI Adipura Surabaya. This study was conducted using descriptive qualitative design. The research instrument was the writer herself. The method of collecting data was observation. The writer collected the data by observation in the Islamic Elementary School at Jl. Rusun Sombo in Ampel region Surabaya. The researcher shows the types and constributing factor to code-switching. In terms of types, they are intra-sentential switching (13 data) and emblematic switching (12 data). Additionally, there are four factors of code-switching, they are the participants, social context, the topic, and the purpose Keywords: Bilinguals, Code-switching, Types, Factors.
