    ABSTRACT Maula, H. F. 130511100081. An Analysis of Sense Properties of Sentences in Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s Oscar and the Lady in Pink. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Social and Cultural Science, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Misnadin, S.S., M.A., Ph.D. This study aims to explain the types of sense properties found in Oscar and the Lady in Pink and how can the sentences be analyzed using Hurfod, Heasley and Smith theory of sense properties. This Study focuses on sense properties which found in Oscar and the Lady in Pink short story. The source of data is Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. This study used Hurford, Heasley and Smith theory (2007) for analyzing the types of sense properties and describing the analysis of sentence using sense properties theory on Oscar and the Lady in Pink short story. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. The data of this study are sentences, phrases, or words that contains of sense properties in Oscar and the Lady in Pink. The research instrument of this study was the writer herself. The source of data was Oscar and the Lady in Pink by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. The data were collected by using content analysis method. After collecting the data, the data were analyzed by using interactive data analysis. There are 30 data found in this study. They belong to the three types of sense properties, those are analytic sentences (4 data) with 13,3 of percentage, synthetic sentences (24 data) with 80 of percentage, and contradiction sentences (2 data) with 6,6 of percentage. The sentence analyzed using Hurford, Heasley and Smith’s theory (2007) looked from the sense which contain in the sentence depending on the context. After that, the sentence analyzed and classified based on the context of the sentence. Then the data can be categorized being analytic, synthetic, or contradiction depending on the sense and the context of sentence which was analyzed by the writer. From the findings above, the writer can conclude that the most frequently types of sense properties is synthetic sentences. Keywords: Sense Properties, Types of Sense Properties
