This study focused on optimism in Hillary Clinton speech in the National Democratic Convention on 28th July, 2016. The purposes of this study are: (1) to explain the factors which can be used to identify optimism in Hillary Clinton’s Speech, (2) to explain the characteristics of Hillary Clinton her speech. This research was descriptive qualitative method. The research instrument in this study was the writer himself. The sources of the data were the utterances of Hillary Clinton speech which contain optimism. The data were collected by using content analysis method. The writer found almost all the factors of data except unstable optimism. There were 29 data found in this study. 4 data belong to stable optimism, 2 data for global, 6 data for specific, 11 data for internal, and 6 data for external. Regarding the data, the writer concluded that Hillary was characterized as an optimist character since there were 21 of 29 data which belonged to the optimistic character and only 8 data were related to the less optimistic character.
