The objectives of this study are to explain the categories and types of illocutionary act of hate speech in Donald Trump’s Twitter comments. This study discusses hate speech particularly in categories and types of illocutionary act. The objects of this study are the comments related to hate speech. This study used descriptive qualitative data analysis. The data were comments posted on Trump’s Twitter that contained utterances of hate speech. The data were collected using content analysis and analyzed using the method proposed by Kothari (2004). He suggests that data analysis involves editing, coding, classification, and tabulation. The writer found the categories of hate speech and the types of illocutionary act of hate speech in Donald Trump’s Twitter comments. In terms of categories, 2 data were classified as racial or racism, 1 data were classified as religious group, 6 data were classified as ethnic or ethnocentrism, 1 data were classified as national group, 2 data were classified as gender, 2 data were classified as age, 1 data were classified as sexual preference, 5 data were classified as physical capacity, 5 data were classified as sexism, and 2 data were classified as ethnic minorities. In terms of types of illocutionary act, the writer found 1 data belonging to declarations, 10 data belonging to representatives, 4 data belonging to expressives, 10 belonging to directives, and 2 data belonging to commisives.
