ABSTRACT This study focuses on the symploce found in the Donald Trump’s presidential campaign speech. This study aims to explain types of symploce which are found in Donald Tump’s presidential campaign speech. It also aims to explain purposes of symploce in Donald Tump’s presidential campaign speech. In addition, to analyze the data, this study used theories proposed by Dickson (2011) to analyze types and the purposes of symploce. Moreover, this study was conducted by applying a descriptive qualitative research design since the data are in the form of words. The source of data was video speech of Donald Trump when he was on his way to become a president. The data of this study are the utterances of Donald Trump which contain symploce. The data were collected by using content analysis method. The writer found 18 data. The writer found 3 data which belong to phrase repetition, 6 data which belong to word repetition and 3 data which belong to word class of non-repeated material. The writer also found 6 data which belong to compound variation. From all those data, 6 data has a purpose to convey emotion, 7 data has a purpose to convey meaning and 5 data has a purpose to persuade.
