  • AN ANALYSIS OF IMPLICIT AVOIDANCE STRATEGIES IN IF I STAY MOVIE

    Abstraksi

    This study focuses on the implicit avoidance strategies. The study discusses the types of avoidance and the reasons behind the implicit avoidance usage in If I stay movie. The data are analyzed and classified based the types of implicit avoidance and the reasons of implicit avoidance proposed by Chen (2010). This study uses descriptive qualitative research. The source of data is If I stay movie. The data were taken from all characters in If I stay movie which contain implicit avoidance. The main instrument is the writer herself. The method to analyze the data are interactive model analysis. In this study, the writer found 13 data belong to implicit avoidance. The writer found 13 types of implicit avoidance. There are 8 data which belong to conversational implicature, 2 data which belong to pre sequence, and 3 data which belong to hedges. The writer also found 13 reasons of implicit avoidance. There are 3 data which belong to politeness principle, 1 datum which belongs to relative power, 5 data which belong to social distances and 4 data which belong to imposition.
