    ABSTRACT Islamiyah, I. 13.05.111.000.11. A Study of Request Strategies In Novel The Girl On The Train. Thesis. English Study Program of Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Dr. Masduki, M.Pd. This study focuses on types and request perspectives of request strategies uttered by all characters in novel The Girl On The Train. It aims to explain the types of request strategies and the request perspectives of request. To analyse the data, this study uses Blum-Kulka (1989) to analyze the types of request strategies and request perspectives of request strategies. Moreover, this study is conducted by applying a qualitative research design since the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are sentences and utteraces uttered by all characters in novel The Girl On The Train. The data are collected by using content analysis method. In analyzing the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis. In the finding, the writer found seventy five data. The writer found fifteen data belong to the type of request mood derivable, seven data in explicit performative, eight data in hedged performative, five data in locution derivable, seven data in scope stating, six data in language spesific sugestory formula, seventeen data in reference to preparatory conditions, nine data in strong hints, and one data in mild hints.. The writer also elaborates the request perspectives of request. From 75 data of request strategies utterances and sentences, there are fifty four data in hearer oriented, seven data in speaker oriented, thirteen data in speaker and hearer oriented, and one data in impersonal.
