    ABSTRACT Mawarni, Shintya Ayu. 13.05.1.1.1.00007. Women Characteristics of Feminist in Kristin Hannah’s Between Sisters. Thesis. English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Prof. Dr. Suryo Tri Saksono. This study focused on the feminist characteristics which shown by Meghann and Claire in the novel Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah. Related to feminism, two research questions are set in this study, they are: what are the feminist characteristics portrayed by Meghann Dontess and Claire Cavenaugh in the novel and how are the liberal feminist values by depicted in the novel. This study employed feminist criticism as the theory. The specific kind of feminism used in this study is liberal feminism. Therefore, the liberal feminist values by Bell Hooks is also used in this study. Moreover, this study is conducted by using qualitative design because (1) the data were in the form of words. The data of this study are the characters utterances and narrator’s explanations which related to answer the research questions. (2) the key instrument of this study is the writer herself. After analyzing the novel, it is obtained that both Meghann and Claire are having the feminist characteristics. Their feminist characteristics are shown by their struggle to end the sexism and inequality. They show that as women they can be equal as well as men. Furthermore, the liberal feminist values are also depicted by both Meghann and Claire. The liberal feminist values are; (a) taking part in public sphere, (b) empower another women or sisterhood (c) reproduction rights, and (d) working outside house.
