The aims of this study was to reveal the aspects of fantasy in Rachel Hawkins’ Hex Hall. Related to the purpose, this study focused on the analysis of fantasy genre.Therefore, the characteristics of fantasy by John H. Timmerman, the functions of fantasy by Ben Hoare, and the kinds of fantasy by Brian Stableford used in this study. This study conducted by use qualitative research because first, the data that were analyzed and interpreted were not manipulated. Second, the data are in the form of words, the data analyzed are from the characters’ utterances and narrator’s explanations which related to answer the research questions. Collecting the data, reducing the data, displaying the data and making conclusion are the technique of collecting data. After analyzing the novel, it is obtained that the novel included into fantasy literature based on its aspects. The characteristics of fantasy found in the novel are (1) story, (2) common characters, (3) evocation of another world, (4) the use of magic and the supernatural power, (5) a clear sense of good and evil, and (6) quests. The functions of fantasy found in the novel are (1) fantasy used to escape from reality, (2) fantasy used to creat reality, and (3) fantasy used to replaces from reality. The kinds of fantasy found in the novel are (1) contemporary fantasy, (2) dark fantasy, and (3) low fantasy. Related to the findings above, it can be concluded that this novel can be categorized into fantasy genre. Keywords: Genre, Fantasy, Aspects of Fantasy, Novel.
