    Anam, Khoirul. 13.05.111.00001. English Study Program. Reading The Stages of Friendship In Rick Riordan’s Magnus Chase And The Gods Of Asgard: The Sword Of Summer. The purposes of this study was to identify the stages and benefits of friendship used in Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer. Related to the purpose, this study focused on the analysis of the stages and benefits of friendship. This was a qualitative study because first, the data that were analyzed and interpreted were not manipulated. Second, the data analyzed are from the quotations of the characters and the direct explanation from the author. Reducing data, displaying data and making conclusion are the technique of collecting data. The results found that there are four stages of friendship represented by the characters of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer those are contact, involvement, close and intimate. The study also found that there are five benefit of friendship found in the characters of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer those are utility, affirmation, ego support, stimulation and security. Key words: the stages, the benefits, theory of friendship, novel.
