Penelitian ini fokus terhadad phonetic expressive means dan stylistic devices dalam puisi-puisi yang dibuat oleh penyair terkenal abad ke 18 yakni Percy Bysshe Shelley. Karena puisi adalah salah satu jenis karya sastra yang tertua dalam sejarah, sehingga sangat menarik untuk diteliti. Selain itu, puisi juga mempunyai ciri khas yang berbeda dengan karya sastra yang lain, seperti pilihan katanya, suaranya dan polanya. Puisi juga memeliki rima, baris serta bait. Penelitan ini menggunakan metode desktriptif kualitatif karena menganalisis dan menggambarkan tentang jenis-jenis phonetic expressive means dan stylistic devices serta functional styles yang ada di dalam puisi-puisi karya Percy Bysshe Shelley. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah sebuah buku berjudul “The Complete Poetical Works of Percy Bysshe Shelly. Penulis memilih tujuh puisi dalam buku tersebut untuk dianalisis sebagai representatif dari puisi yang lain. Penulis menemukan 35 data tentang phonetic expressive means dan stylistic devices dalam puisinya yang meliputi 8 data termasuk alliteration, 7 data mengandung assonance, 4 data termasuk full rhyme, 3 data termasuk incomplete rhyme, 5 data termasuk compound rhyme, 2 data termasuk eye rhyme, 3 data termasuk internal rhyme, 3 data temasuk couplet stanza rhyme dan tidak ada data untuk triplet stanza rhyme. Sementara itu, penulis juga menemukan 35 data tentang functional styles khususnya gaya-gaya baik yang digunakan oleh Percy Bysshe Shelley dalam puisinya, yang meliputi 20 data termasuk Spenceria stanza, 5 data termasuk Ottava Rima stanza dan 10 data termasuk Ballad stanza. This study focuses on analysing Phonetic Expressive Means and Stylistic Devices in poems used by a famous poet in the 18th century who is Percy Bysshe Shelley. Because poem is one of the oldest genres in the literary history, therefore it will be interesting to observe and analyse about it. Besides that, poem also has special characters which are different with other literary works, such as it uses particular words, sounds and patterns. Then, it also contains rhymes, lines and stanzas. This study uses descriptive qualitative research design. It uses descriptive-qualitative research design because this study analyses and describes about kinds of phonetic expressive means and stylistic devices and functional styles that occur in Percy Bysshe Shelley’s Poems. While the source of data in this study is a book entitled “The Complete Poetical Works of Percy Bysshe Shelly” which the writer chooses seven poems from that book as the representative of other poems of Percy Bysshe Shelley to be analysed in this study. The writer found 35 data of Phonetic Expressive Means and Stylistic Devices applied by Percy Bysshe Shelley in his poems. It covers 8 data of alliteration, 7 data of assonance, 4 data of full rhyme, 3 data of incomplete rhyme, 5 data of compound rhyme, 2 data of eye rhyme, 3 data of internal rhyme, 3 data of couplet stanza rhyme and no data of triplet stanza rhyme. Meanwhile, the writer also found 35 data of functional style especially stanza styles used by Percy Bysshe Shelley in his poems. It covers 20 data of Spenceria stanza, 5 data of Ottava Rima stanza and 10 data of Ballad stanza. Key Words: Phonetic Expressive Means and Stylistic Devices, Functional Styles, Poems.
