This study intends to describe the complying of Daley’s basic need, and to elaborate Daley’s journey to achieve her self-actualization based on Maslow’s eight ways to reach self-actualization. This study uses Lily King novel entitled Father of the Rain as the source of data. This study used qualitative research design as the method, because the data were in the form of words and utterances. Those utterances come from the characters’ utterances and main character’s narrations. Moreover, this study collected the data by reading, slicing or reducing, and analyzing the data based on Miles and Huberman’s qualitative research (1994), and Robert Stake’s qualitative research (2010). This study applies Maslow’s human motivation theory as the theory. The results of this study indicate that Daley has fulfilled her basic needs to achieve self-actualization. Those basic needs are physiology need, safety need, love and belonging need, and esteem need. In addition, Daley can obtain her self-actualization through her life journeys, borrowing Maslow’s term as ‘eight ways to reach self-actualization’, which are being selfless, process of choices, let the self emerge, to be responsible, to be unpopular, use intelligence, peak experiences, and identifying defenses. Keywords: Maslow’s human motivation, hierarchy of needs, basic needs, self-actualization, Maslow’s eight ways to achieve self-actualization.
