ABSTRACT This study focuses on intertextuality analysis of Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones in Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven. This study aims to find out the similarities, differences, and elements in Sebold’s The Lovely Bones that influence Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven. In addition, this study uses Julia Kristeva’s theory of intertextuality. Kristeva declares about ‘a mosaic of quotations’ means that texts relate to each other. Moreover, this study uses a qualitative design because the data doesn’t deal with number or values, but words. The data of this study are the utterances and narrator’s explanations which involve in both novels. The findings of this study found such as the theme, setting of place, moral values, the main character can see the people from heaven, the main character meets five people, and the main character and people she/he meets in heaven relate to each other. The differences such as the gender of the main character, point of view, cause of the death, and setting of time. The last, it is found the elements that influence both novels show that Sebold’s work and Albom’s work are connected each other.
