Robert Galbraith’s The Cuckoo’s Calling is one of literary works that consists of conflict, those are internal and external conflicts. This study is focused on the utterances that reveal the causes and effects of internal and external conflicts experienced by the one of the main character, Cormoran Strike. The development of the conflict is analyzed in this study. Concerning with these matters, the intrinsic approach is used to analyze conflict. This is a qualitative study because, first the data that are analyzed and interpreted are not manipulated. After analyzing the novel, it is found that Strike as the main character in the novel faces several conflicts, both internal and external conflicts. The internal conflict are Strike’s dilemma, first whether he has to hire a new employee or not. Second, whether he is going to work as a detective or not. The causes of internal conflict those are Economic Problem and Physical Problem. The causes gives two effects in Strike’s life. Those are, Strike is Depressed and Strike’s Physical Suffering. The first external conflict is between Strike and John that divided into two, the quarrel between Strike and John and Physical Fight between Strike and John. Then, external conflict between Strike and Mr. Bestigui is Conflict of Strike’s versus Mr. Bestigui. the causes of external conflict between Strike and John those are John’s ambition and The Truth of Lula’s Case. While, the causes of external conflict between Strike and Mr. Bestigui is Strike’s Difficulties to get the evidences and witness of Lula’s Case. Then, the effects of external conflict between Strike nd John are divided into two, those are Strike is vacillating and Strike is Injured. Then, the effect of the external conflict between Strike and Mr. Bestigui is the conflict of Strike versus Mr.Bestigui. While, the effect of the external conflict between Strike and Mr. Bestigui is Strike goes out Mr. Bestigui’s office. Keyword: Internal Conflict, External Conflict, Cause, Effect.
