Abstract: This study focuses on zero anaphora that are used in Rick Riordian’s The Lightning Thief Novel. This study aims to explain the types and the patterns of zero anaphora which are taken from The Lightning Thief Novel written by Rick Riordian. This study is conducted by applying a qualitative research design since the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are the sentences contain zero anaphora which are used in The Lightning Thief Novel written by Rick Riordian. The data are collected by using content analysis method. In analyzing the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis. This study uses two theories which are proposed by Li and Thompson (1981) and Tao (2001) to analyze the data.The data analysis reveals 24 data in the findings which cover the research questions. Firstly, the types of zero anaphora mostly used in The Lightning Thief Novel is intersentential case which has 19 data. The second is intrasentential which gets 5 data. The writer also finds the patterns of zero anaphora. Those are 3 data for the switch- reference pattern, 8 data for the embedded clause condition, 13 data for the direct object condition, no data for the return-pop.
