Advisor: Diva Wenanda, S.S, M.Pd The novel Percy Jackson and The Olympians The Sea of Monsters is one of literary works by Rick Riordan which published in 2006. The novel tells about Percy Jackson as the main character who do the journey to bring magical golden fleece back home. The magical golden fleece has many functions, one of them to protect the Camp Half-Blood from the enemies. Thus, the magical golden fleece lost. Therefore, it is the reason of Percy Jackson do the journey because the Camp Half-Blood is threatened. The novel is fantasy story and also can be analyzed in the stages theory. Therefore, this study focus to explain the stages of Percy Jackson to get a magical golden fleece in the Sea of Monsters using monomyth theory by Joseph Campbell. This study uses qualitative design. Method of the data collection by understanding the story, identifying, and selecting data to answer the research questions. Further, the data selected was displayed and categorized based on Campbell’s monomyth theory. Analyzing data was done by reducing data, displaying data and making conclusion. Thus, the results of this study is the functions of magical golden fleece which influence of Percy’s journey in the Sea of Monsters. Then, the stages of Percy Jackson during his journey matches with monomyth theory by Joseph Campbell. In monomyth theory there are three main stages of hero journey. They are Departure, Initiations, and Return. Keywords: The Functions of Magical Golden Fleece and Monomyth theory.
