Ekosistem mangrove berperan penting dalam siklus ekologi di wilayah pesisir dengan ketergantungan biota perairan dan manusia terhadapnya. Keberadaan ekosistem mangrove bagi kawasan pulau kecil seperti halnya ekosistem terumbu karang bermanfaat sebagai barrier sekaligus penahan abrasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan: 1) Mengidentifikasi jenis mangrove di Pulau Paliat Kabupaten Sumenep. 2) Mengetahui struktur komunitas mangrove di Pulau Paliat Kabupaten Sumenep. 3) Mengetahui indeks nilai penting mangrove di Pulau Paliat Kabupaten Sumenep. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode observasi dan studi pustaka. Analisa yang digunakan meliputi analisa kerapatan jenis, kerapatan relatif jenis, frekuensi jenis, frekuensi relatif jenis, penutupan jenis, penutupan relatif jenis, indeks nilai penting, indeks keanekaragaman, indeks keseragaman, dan indeks dominansi. Hasil yang dapat disimpulkan dari penelitian ini: 1) Jenis mangrove yang ditemukan di Pulau Paliat terdapat sebanyak 3 jenis meliputi Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Rhizophora apiculata, dan Rhizophora mucronata. 2) Jenis mangrove di Pulau Paliat memiliki indeks keanekaragaman tertinggi sebesar 1,080; indeks keseragaman tertinggi sebesar 1,078; dan indeks dominansi tertinggi sebesar 1,079. 3) Jenis mangrove di Pulau Paliat yang memiliki indeks nilai penting tertinggi terdapat pada jenis Rhizophora mucronata dengan nilai sebesar 100 o/o.

The mangrove ecosystem has important role in the ecological cycle in coastal areas with the dependence of marine life and human on it. The existence of mangrove ecosystem to the small islands such as coral reef ecosystems are useful as barrier and also abrasion retaining. This study aims to: 1) Identify the types of mangroves in Paliat Island Sumenep. 2) Knowing the structure of mangrove communities in Paliat Island Sumenep. 3) Knowing the Importance Value Index of mangrove in Paliat Island Sumenep. The method which is used in this research is using descriptive method. Data collection was performed is using the method of observation and literature. The analysis which is used include of the analysis of density types, relative density type, frequency type, the relative frequency type, kind of closure, relative closure type, important value index, diversity index, uniformity index, and dominance index.
