ABSTRACT - This study is focused on the jargon used by lesbians and the reasons why lesbian create jargon. The aims of this study are to classify the kinds of jargon, to identify the most dominant kinds of jargon used, and to clarify the reasons why lesbian create jargon. In this study, descriptive qualitative design is used by the writer. The source of data in this study is the conversation among lesbian in Pelangi community located in Surabaya, meanwhile the data in this study is lesbian’s utterances that contain jargon and any kinds of information related to the statements of the research problem. The writer applied observation and interview method in data collection. Furthermore, the writer uses interactive model analysis in analyzing the data. Based on the discussion, the writer found 45 jargons used by lesbian in Surabaya. The kind of jargons were 4 (four) Abbreviations, 37 (thirty seven) words, and 4 (four) phrases. Word is kind of jargon which mostly used during lesbians conversation. Moreover, there are three self-representation concepts based on the reason why lesbian in Pelangi community use jargon, those are: 2 (two) lesbians included into individual self; 4 (four) lesbians included into relational self; 2 (two) lesbians included into collective self.
