? ABSTRACT System for analyzing language is divided into kinds meaning (simile) connotes more than three meaning. When people find a new word or message that consist of system analyzing language, the mind must interpret the data to convert it into meaning. This set of memories will give understanding to the most literal meaning. One of imaginative language is simile. The language is usually found in some literary works such as, short story and novel. In writing a novel, a writer mostly uses simile. In this study, the writer analyzed the simile and also the social meanings, symbolism meanings and psychological meaning that she found in the novel that she chose. This novel entitled “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain which is a classic novel. It told mostly about social problems. The researcher presented this thesis firstly because the researcher wanted to know the simile of its meaning in this novel and secondly because there is no analysis of meanings of simile in any thesis of English Department Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences in University of Trunojoyo Madura. In this thesis have one of statement of the research problem and the problem is What are the meanings of simile in the novel “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain?. And utilize a New Criticism theory because New Criticism is a theory that explains about text. It means that new criticism only discusses the sources or evidences that occur in literary work itself. And than this thesis utilizes Qualitative method because as procedur research that produce the descriptive word of the data such as written and oral from people behavior that can observe The writer read carefully this novel and selected the sentences which consist of simile, she underlined them and gave some codes on them. Then she transformed them in the table that made it easier when she analyzed it. After that, she analyzed the real meanings of those sentences. The last she analyzed the social meanings, symbolism meanings, and psychological meanings of the simile and concluded it. After getting the data needed, the social meaning, the symbolism meaning and the psychological meaning of simile or the author of the novel gave other meanings in simile that the writer found in the novel. And the writer concluded that the author of this novel used Simile of social meanings, symbolism meanings, and psychological meanings more than others to give powerful effect to the story. In social meaning, it is used to deliver the social message of the novel. In symbolism meaning, it is used to represent something or someone. In psychological meaning, it is used to describe the character’s personality. Key Words: Analysis, Simile, Novel.
