    Abstraction

    Abstract: This study discussed about presupposition in hypnotic language used by Doug O’Brien. He is a famous hypnotist according to International Journal posted by Routledge (2014). The purposes of this study were to identify the types of presuppositions found in hypnotic language used by Doug O’Brien in Doug O’Brien Hypnosis and to explain the contribution of the presupposition for the speaker’s communicative purpose. The theory used in this study was presuppositions proposed by Yule (1996). This study was conducted by qualitative research design. The results of this study were, first, all types of presuppositions existed in hypnotic language used by Doug O’Brien. There were 12 existential presupposition, 9 factive presupposition, 4 lexical presupposition, 2 structural presupposition, 2 non-factive presupposition and 1 counterfactual presupposition. Secondly, based on the analysis done by the writer, the presuppositions truly made important contribution in the speaker communicative purposes. The writer also concluded that the speaker used presuppositions to emphasize his suggestion to the target interlocutor.
