The sufferance of lower class people in “Beggar to Beggar Cried” and “He Wishes for The Cloth of Heaven” by William Butler Yeats shows the condition of industrial revolution, and also the effect to the society especially to lower class people who are oppressed by the upper class people in Britain at the beginning of nineteenth century. This study aims to describe the sufferance of lower class people, and the effort of lower class people to defend the life in both of those poems. This condition underlies the existence of differentiation of class between upper class and lower class in the society. Marxist theory in this study discusses about social and economic problems that appear in the society. This study focuses on the sufferance of lower class people. Upper class people always oppress the lower class people, and because of this condition lower class people get the sufferance. Qualitative research methodology is used in this study. The source of data are poems “Beggar to Beggar Cried" and “He Wishes for the Cloth of Heaven”, and the data are words in the poems that reflect the sufferance of lower class people. The writer have to analyze the data by reading and comprehending those poems. After analyzing the data then display the data. The writer should show the words as the data that reflect the sufferance of lower class people in those poems above. There are two kinds of sufferance that is discussed in this study, first is sufferance of oppression and getting wealth in lower class people, second is sufferance of getting love in lower class people, and the last discussion is about the effort of lower class people to defend the life from the sufferance. In conclusion, lower class people get sufferance in life because of the domination of the upper class people in the society, lower class people get the sufferance that is caused by the upper class people who are more powerful than the lower class people. Lower class people are oppressed by the upper class people, and this oppression make the sufferance is harder for the lower class people.
