Women literary works have their own characteristics and uniqueness that is different to the men’s writing. This study uses gynocriticism theory to analyze a novel written by woman entitled Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte. As the statements of research problem there are three questions are formulated: (1) How the delineation of the women characters breaks the negative stereotypes of women in the novel Agnes Grey?. (2) How the governess experiences described through the theme in the novel Agnes Grey?. (3) What are the phases which are presented in the novel Agnes Grey?. The gynocriticism theory is the part of feminist criticism which study about the literary works written by women. It used to analyze the creativity of the woman writer in writing their literary works. The analysis includes the delineation of the characters, theme, and the history of women’s writing (female phases). This study uses the descriptive qualitative method as the research design. After analyzing the novel, it is found that the delineation of the women characters is breaking the negative stereotypes. The negative stereotypes of women such women are weak, helpless and dependent. Those negative stereotypes are broken by the characteristics of women characters in the novel; they are strong, independent and needed by the men. The theme of the novel that is the life of a governess in the mid nineteenth century is describing the governess experiences. Furthermore, the history of women’s writing (female phases) which presents in the novel are feminine and feminist phase. The feminine phase shows that the women still under the men’s domination, while the feminist phase shows that women are trying to against the domination.
